ACOFP Foundation Announces New Name and Strategic Plan

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - July 12, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

The ACOFP Foundation recently approved a new strategic plan as part of its approach to better support the osteopathic family medicine profession. Previously known as the ACOFP Education & Research Foundation, the organization opted for the new name to better reflect its objectives.

The ACOFP Foundation's strategic plan now includes a vision to advance access to comprehensive osteopathic health care for all and a mission to champion comprehensive osteopathic family medicine that provides high-quality care, improves patient outcomes and reduces health disparities. These are supported by three main goals:

  1. Strengthening the osteopathic family physician profession by promoting a diverse and distinct workforce
  2. Providing osteopathic training, resources and other learning opportunities to promote the delivery of the highest quality of care for the mind, body and spirit
  3. Demonstrating the impact of osteopathic family medicine in improving the health of patient populations and communities through addressing social determinants of health

As the charitable arm of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), the ACOFP Foundation focuses on ensuring the future of osteopathic distinctiveness through programs such as the Initial Certification Grant, which relieves some of the financial burden for residents entering osteopathic family medicine field, and award opportunities like the Sander A. Kushner, DO, FACOFP Memorial Osteopathic Family Medicine Resident Award and the Namey/Burnett Preventive Medicine Writing Award. By formalizing its new strategic plan and continuing to identify and secure funds from various sources, the ACOFP Foundation is poised to grow its initiatives and its impact on the profession.

"The numerous challenges of the past few years—on both the public and the profession—have, in turn, created numerous opportunities for our organization," ACOFP Foundation President Paul A. Martin, DO, FACOFP dist., said. "The approval of a more focused strategic plan allows the ACOFP Foundation to evolve, better meeting the needs of the profession and the public, as well as supporting the next generation of physicians."
