For this year's rankings, 4,583 companies were initially nominated or asked to participate. Of those companies, 305 were ultimately surveyed for the list. Employee surveys determine which companies are Top Workplaces. Employees were asked to read statements and rank their workplace on a seven-point scale through the survey. Statements cover employee engagement, company leadership, and other areas, such as pay, benefits, training, and expectations. Some of the statements included in the survey were:
