Metro Community Development Announces Deadline for Genesee County Minority PPE Grant Program

Genesee County minority businesses (African-American and Latinx) are eligible for special grant funding. The grant fund has been established to help Genesee County minority businesses by reimbursing business-interruption and closure expenses, and other costs incurred to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. Qualifying businesses will receive reimbursement for expenses incurred after March 1, 2020 or to pre-pay new purchases for supplies and equipment. All funds must be disbursed before December 15th.

Metro Community Development is notifying Genesee County minority business that they are eligible to receive grant funding if their business incurred qualified expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is intended to assist eligible businesses that have experienced costs due to business interruptions and closures as well as PPE-related expenses, such as equipment, supplies, sanitizing services. The grant seeks to cover 100% of eligible business expenses until all funds are exhausted or the deadline of Dec. 15 is reached.

The program is designed to assist African-American and Latinx owned small businesses who have incurred expenses related to protecting their employees and customers from the spread of COVID-19. To qualify businesses must have been open during the aid period and be located within Genesee County.

Brian Glowiak, Chief Executive Officer of Metro Community Development states, "Our agency is reaching out to area businesses who might benefit from this grant program. We have created an easy online application and have staff available to answer any questions. Funds for this program are being disbursed immediately. This is a first-come, first-served opportunity and we hope that all qualifying business will apply now."

To be considered for a grant award, qualified businesses must complete an application and provide information about the expenses incurred. Covered expenses include those incurred by a shutdown, supplies (face masks/shields, gloves, hand sanitizer, check-out shields) equipment, disinfection and sanitizing services and other technical services to protect employees and customers.
