Applied Policy is pleased to announce the appointment of Cheryl Powell as Vice President of Health Policy. Powell specializes in healthcare services, reimbursement and coverage, with a focus on Medicare’s newly announced payment regulations and their impact on hospitals and other healthcare services.
Before joining Applied Policy, Powell spent 16 years at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), where she held senior positions, including Deputy Director of the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office, Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight Senior Advisor, and Director of the IT Investment Portfolio Management Group.
In addition to her experience at CMS, Powell has held positions at IBM Watson Health, MITRE, and Mathematica Inc., where she provided nationally recognized expertise in Medicare and Medicaid financing; value-based care programs; and the design and implementation of CMS Innovation Center models.
“Powell’s in-depth experience at CMS, as well as her work at internationally influential companies, make her an invaluable addition to Applied Policy," said James Scott, President and CEO of Applied Policy. “She has both shaped CMS policy and helped private sector entities successfully and expeditiously meet Medicare and Medicaid requirements.”
Powell holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia.
