Hasura Introduces GraphQL Joins to Build a Unified Data API to Multiple GraphQL Sources

New Hasura data federation innovations enable fast, secure data access among both GraphQL and non-GraphQL data sources without custom code, significantly accelerating application development

GraphQL innovation leader Hasura today announced GraphQL Joins, a new set of capabilities that let developers instantly join data from across different GraphQL services to create a unified GraphQL API. Hasura does this using open source GraphQL standards, eliminating the need for custom code or upstream service changes. Expanding on Hasura's existing data federation capabilities, developers now have the ability to easily fetch data from across databases and other GraphQL services. Implementing the configuration at the Hasura layer in combination with Hasura’s existing out-of-the-box caching and authorization capabilities gives developers the ability to mix and match their data sources freely, significantly reducing development time, security risks and ongoing maintenance costs. Hasura has been downloaded ~500M times and with over 26,000 GitHub stars since its introduction in 2018.

Application developers need the ability to compose data from different sources. The data typically resides in independent data stores but are frequently semantically related. Composing relationships between related data and querying data across siloed independent data stores has historically required significant custom code development with multiple APIs calling each of the sources. Hasura’s data federation capabilities accelerate the API development process by creating a single GraphQL schema from multiple data sources thereby making the data access process self-serve. This lets app developers query, mutate or federate real-time and stream data across services without writing any custom code.

Hasura’s new GraphQL Joins capabilities enhance data federation for developers who have:

• More than one GraphQL API – whether their own or a third party’s
• Existing investments in GraphQL servers to which they would like to add new data sources
• Databases for which they haven't yet created APIs
