Concentric Advisors CSO Jim Morgan Discusses Taylor Swift's Security Impact at Super Bowl LVIII

KIRKALND, WA / ACCESSWIRE / June 20, 2024 / Concentric Advisors Chief Security Officer Jim Morgan says that the Super Bowl is always a high-security event, but this year's game in Las Vegas had an extra wrinkle: Taylor Swift's anticipated attendance.

Jim Morgan is an expert in security for several NSSEs, including six of President Obama's inauguration balls in 2009. He worked in the Secret Service for 24 years before becoming a chief security officer at Concentric Advisors Inc., a risk management firm that provides security services and intelligence solutions.

Morgan says that Swift's anticipated attendance will add several wrinkles. However, it's not simply because of her status as an A-list celebrity. Instead, her relationship with Travis Kelce is making security do extra planning.

"She, more than any other VIP, will likely move through this event space, from the suite, to the field, to the locker room. She may even want to talk to Usher. There's really a logistical challenge for her team and for the event to move in and out through these different secure areas," Morgan told Fox News Digital in a recent interview.

Security would need to plan specifically for Swift because her plans will likely change based on the result of the game.

Standard Super Bowl Security

Every Super Bowl receives a SEAR (Special Event Assessment Rating) of 1, the highest rating. This means the event gets blanketed with security measures. Credentialing is mandatory, requiring everyone from vendors to celebrities to have special passes restricting access to certain areas.

Extra Planning for Swift

Former Secret Service agent Jim Morgan explained that Swift's presence added logistical challenges because she might move around a lot - from her suite to the field, locker room, or even to greet Usher.

Security also had to plan for different scenarios depending on the game's outcome. If the Kansas City Chiefs (Travis Kelce's team) won, they anticipated Swift celebrating on the field and potentially in the locker room.

Security Beyond the Game

Security wasn't just focused on the game itself. Events surrounding the Super Bowl, like parties, also received heightened security.

The influx of celebrities and VIPs meant even more logistical planning for credentialing and movement within secure areas. Private planes were even rerouted to accommodate the expected surge in VIP travel.

Morgan said that if the Chiefs win, Swift will likely celebrate on the field as she did after the AFC title game, potentially in the locker room and elsewhere. If the Chiefs lose, Swift can go right home.

"There's also an element that fans will likely not exit when the game is over because they'll want to see if she goes onto the field. Those are the unknowns, and that's the challenge for the teams to plan: what that looks like whether her boyfriend wins or loses, and where she ends up after the game," Morgan said.

Security will be heightened regardless, and fans will notice an increase in security because of the game's magnitude, not necessarily because of Swift's attendance.

And security doesn't start or end with just the game.

Super Bowl LVIII

The Super Bowl between the Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers went off without a hitch, even with the additional considerations for Taylor Swift and many other celebrities.
