Los Angeles, CA - The FILMteenth International Film Festival is excited to announce its relocation to the vibrant city of Los Angeles for its upcoming edition. Established in 2021, FILMteenth has rapidly ascended to prominence as the premier Juneteenth holiday film festival worldwide. The festival showcases historical and groundbreaking storytelling that reflects the contributions and experiences of people of color and their American journey. Originally based in Washington, D.C., the organizers are thrilled to bring FILMteenth to the heart of the film industry in Los Angeles.
The decision to move the national festival to Los Angeles was strategic, as the city is not only the home of Hollywood but also boasts a thriving community of artists, filmmakers, and film enthusiasts. This move will provide filmmakers with increased exposure and networking opportunities, while allowing audiences to enjoy the best of international cinema right in their own backyard.
"We are thrilled to bring FILMteenth to Pasadena and immerse ourselves in the vibrant community that calls this city home," said Will Gorham, the festival's director. "We believe that Pasadena, with its proud history and the hometown of Jackie Robinson, provides the perfect backdrop for our festival to continue celebrating the diverse voices that make up the fabric of our American experience."
The upcoming edition of FILMteenth will coincide with the Juneteenth holiday on June 19 and will feature a rich lineup of documentaries and historical shorts highlighting Black American experiences and culture. One of the standout films, "Underwater Projects," offers a unique perspective on the potential impact of climate change on Tidewater, VA communities. Several filmmakers from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will also make their L.A. debuts during the festival.
Another highlight is the documentary "Civil War Colored Troops | Courage. Determination. Survival." This film sheds light on the extraordinary contributions of formerly enslaved Black soldiers who enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War. The festival will also introduce a lite and fresh take on clean comedy with "Of The Comics," a series where Black comedians share their stories and experiences through stand-up comedy.
The two-day festival will kick off on June 18th at the Landmark Pasadena Playhouse and will be available for global streaming via the Eventive platform from June 18-21. The festival will conclude on the evening of the 19th with its signature jazz-themed Awards Garden Party in Pasadena, offering a celebratory close to an eventful festival.
Tickets for the FILMteenth International Film Festival go on sale June 1st and can be purchased through the official website: www.FILMteenth.org. This year's festival promises to be an enriching experience for both filmmakers and audiences, celebrating the diverse and powerful narratives that shape the American experience.
